Dream Team - Season 8
Below is a guide to what the series is about :
It's back to the Dragon's Lair for
Season Eight of Dream Team, and relegated Harchester United face a scrap in the
newly formed 'Championship'. But their European dreams are still alive as they
gear up for exciting Champions League fixtures. New signings include Shane Lynch
as the club's new owner Eli Knox, with Viv 'Jaws' Wright (Philip Brodie),
long-suffering wife Chelsea (Karen Ferrari), Curtis Alexander (Chucky Venice)
and Nicki Stein (Nina Muschallik) among the returning favourites.
We pick up from where we left off at the end of last season, the lads still
celebrating their fourth place finish in the premiership thus ensuring Champions
League football for the new season but unbeknown to them also being relegated
down to the Championship as a result of the match fixing towards the end of last
season.
Dean tries contacting the team through Viv's mobile to tell them the bad news,
but the lads won't have any of it and laugh it off. It takes a second call from
Clyde's dad before the penny finally drops, leaving the players in disbelief.
The next morning, the team gather round to watch the news as the result of their
appeal comes through. Dean is convinced they will get it overturned after the
same happened to Monaco the season before, but this time however is not the
case. The team are dejected, Dean suggests another appeal but the team talk him
out of it saying that it could damage their Champions League dream as well.
Clyde leads the team in demanding the money they are owed due to them getting
into the Champions League then finding other clubs.
Meanwhile a prestigious businessman known as Eli Knox lands in Harchester and
sets off in his limousine to meet ex-Wigan and now Harchester manager, Don
Barker, a hard-nosed Scotsman with a good background of the lower leagues. Don
puts forward his case to try and convince Eli to buy Harchester, and with
Coopers Bank desperate to sell he would be picking up a Premiership side for
next to nothing and with Don vowing to get them back in the Premiership this
season he will make a tidy profit in the end. Being the gambling man that Eli
is, with a toss of a coin, he becomes the new owner of Harchester United.
The next morning Dean introduces the new arrivals to the team including Frank
Stone, a new central defender who Don brought with him from Wigan and
incidentally is also Don's daughter, Jodie's husband. Clyde brings up the matter
of the team splitting up and going to separate clubs, Eli dashes their hopes of
their Champions League bonus they are owed if that happens soon indicating that
they still have the qualifying round to play in order to get into the Champions
League group stages, which doesn't go down well with the lads.
Don has his eye on a new signing in Chelsea right-winger Tommy Valentine. With
Harchester strapped for cash Don, with a little help from Jodie go to the press
with the story that Tommy has been sleeping with one of his Chelsea team mates
wives. As soon as this gets out, in steps Don giving Tommy a way out of Chelsea
and regular first team football as well as a crack at the Champions League.
Tommy is unsure at first but his agent, Sofia convinces him that with his
reputation in tatters and Chelsea not letting him go to another Premiership he
should think about it and it's not long before he signs on loan to Harchester
until Christmas.
Clyde is having a tough time with the changes. The new manager takes an instant
disliking to him and plays him out of position to please new signing Tommy.
Things aren't looking promising either when Sofia can't get him a move back to
the Premiership informing them that they all believe he has a bad attitude.
Sofia manages to get a representative of Norwich to come and watch Clyde in his
first game against Brighton, but Clyde's mouth gets the better of him during a
confrontation with Don, which results in him being dropped. Harchester kick off
their Championship campaign with a tricky tie away to Brighton and Clyde,
knowing that this match could be his ticket out of Harchester grudgingly
apologises to Don and his team mates and plays in the game albeit out of
position in centre midfield. The lads get a reality check when Brighton take the
game to them, making the Dragons realise that life in the Championship won't be
as easy as expected. Its all square at half-time and Clyde and Tommy decide to
switch back to their preferred positions unbeknown to Don. Their plan backfires
and Harchester end up losing the game 1-0 and Don vents his frustrations on
Clyde.
