Natalie returns to Harchester and immediately makes friends with the new chairman's wife, Lynda Block. Not long after she arrives Lynda discovers that Dean has been beating her up and that things are not going well for them in Turkey. Jerry decides that he wants to demolish Harchester United Football Club and have a block of luxury flats built, to ensure that he gets planning permission he bribes counsellor Lal with 50.000 but the money falls into the hands of Billy and Leon. Dean arrives back in Harchester to take Natalie home with him. At first she refuses but Sean, unaware that Dean is beating her, convinces her to go back with him.

Alex Wilkinson returns to Harchester Youth Team after spending the past year in jail for many minor offences. Counsellor Lal ensures that Jerry will receive planning permission providing his son, Hari, joins the youth team. Hari is not a footballer, his team-mates soon realise this and Alex forms a campaign to get rid of him. Ian Coates and Jerry Block sign Luis Amor Rodriguez to Harchester United!

Harchester United find themselves in the middle of Racist allegations when Hari runs away after being bullied by Alex. Counsellor Lal refuses planning permission for Jerry's new flats. Jerry devises a plan with Des, he decides that Des will run for Council elections, in return Jerry will build a new stadium for Harchester United. Leon's ex-girlfriend, Claire, comes to Harchester to find Leon and brings with her their 2 year old son. Luis and Karl have a bet on who can be the first to get Lynda Block into bed! Julie, the canteen girl, makes a play for Warren, who is still recovering from his injuries.

Natalie arrives back in Harchester after leaving Dean for the last time but she is pregnant. Luis and Lynda get closer as they work together on Christmas charity events at the local hospital. Warren is told that he will never be able to play professional football again because of the injuries to his leg, as a result he is sacked from Harchester United. Warren's sister, Mica, comes to visit Warren. Helen, the Youth Teams educational officer, falls in love with Ian Coates, they decide to conduct their affair in private. Lynette decides to leave Des, she has had enough of becoming second in his life to Football.

Ian Coates assaults referee Alan Wilkie, as a result he is suspended by the FA for 6 weeks. Jerry puts Frank Patcham in charge of the first team. Luis tells Lynda that he likes her but Lynda tells him that nothing can come of this. Warren is found dead in his flat as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. Des loses the council elections after a very quick and weak election campaign, but this enables Jerry to make a point to Counselor Lal that if he does not give planning permission that Des will win the next elections with a better devised campaign. Natalie decides that she still loves Dean, and after a brief affair with Sean she goes back to Turkey to be with him.

Sean and Mica arrive back in Harchester after a weekend away in Las-Vegas, they got married when they were drunk. Mica is very pleased but Sean regrets the decision that he made Upon their return they discover that Mica's brother Warren is dead, Sean doesn't have the heart to tell Mica how he really feels about their marriage. Ian reverts back to his old alcoholic ways as Jerry decides that maybe Frank's position, as first team manager may be permanent. Leon and Julie start dating each other at the same time as Karl and Kelly. Ian signs John Black to Harchester. Alex drugs Leon to try and get him kicked out of the club, this is because Alex realises that Leon stands in his way of getting a professional contract. Des decides to leave Harchester to find Lynette leaving Helen in charge of the hostel.

Sean decides that he will stay with Mica, in return she will help him with his career. Natalie returns to tell Sean that she loves him and she wants to be with him, Sean tells Natalie that he is fed up of her messing him around and that he does not love her anymore. Jerry makes Luis the first team's manager and promotes Ian to Director of Football. Ian does not like this arrangement and decides that he will get his old job back. Luis and Lynda begin their on-going affair with each other, but it's not long before Ian finds out.

It's the night before the FA Cup semi-final, Mica goes up to Liverpool to tell Sean that she will give him the divorce that he obviously wants. This results in an encounter between her and Luis, Mica makes a play for Luis and after he knocks her back, she tells everyone that Luis attacked her. Harchester win the FA Cup semi-final at which point Jerry offers Luis a five-year contract with the club as manager. Sean convinces Mica to press charges against Luis.

Jerry discovers that his wife is having an affair with Luis, he suspends Luis from the club using his alleged assault on Mica as an excuse. Lynda decides to leave Jerry and agrees to run off with Luis. Ian finds him self in position of Karl's mobile phone that has a message on it proving that Luis did not attack Mica. He decides to hold on to it until after the FA Cup Final now that he is back in control of the first team. Jerry hires a hit man to kill Luis at the FA Cup Final. Helen finds the mobile phone and Luis is proved to be innocent, Sean leaves Mica and tells her that he never wants to see her again. Helen leaves Ian and decides to go back to London and find a proper teaching job. Alex is thrown out the club after he is found in possession of drugs. Jerry is given planning permission for the new stadium. At the FA Cup Final, Jerry smuggles in a gun and hands it over to the hit man who poses as a security guard. After winning the FA Cup, the team parade the cup around the pitch with Jerry and Lynda with them. The gun man fires the first bullet in the direction of Luis, but Lynda get's in the way....
